Moses Lake was not officially incorporated as a town until 1938. In the 1940's and early 50's Moses Lake boomed because of newly available irrigation water from the Columbia Basin project, enabling vast areas the surrounding the region to be converted into rich farm land. In 1959 Interstate 90 was completed passing the southern end of town thereby increasing the accessibility and prominence of Moses Lake. Today the town has a population of around 16000 and is an important center of the regions agriculture.
